Abstract

Blue wool dyes are obtained by condensing a 1 - amino - 4 - halogen - anthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid with a 2-amino-5 : 6 : 7 : 8-tetrahydronaphthalene - 4 - sulphonic acid amide in which one or each of the hydrogen atoms of the amide group is exchanged for a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic or hydroaromatic hydrocarbon radical, preferably in presence of an acid binding agent and a copper compound or other similar catalyst. The sulphonic acid amide employed may be obtained by causing 2-nitro-5 : 6 : 7 : 8-tetrahydro - naphthalene - 4 - sulphochloride to react with the desired amine and reducing the nitro group. According to examples, the sodium salt of 1-amino-4-bromo anthraquinone-2-sulphonate is condensed with 2 - amino - 5 : 6 : 7 : 8-tetrahydronaphthalene - 4-sulphonic acid dimethylamide, methylamide, ethanolamide, cyclohexylamide and diethylamide in presence of cuprous chloride and sodium carbonate.
