Abstract

Grey dyes for animal fibres are obtained by nitrating 1-amino or alkylamino-4-arylaminoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acids having, if desired, further substituents. According to examples the following compounds are nitrated in concentrated sulphuric acid: (1) 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic sodium salt substituted in the 4-position by p-toluido, p-chloranilido, p-aminoacetanilido-, and anthranilido-; (2) 1 - aminoanthraquinone - 2 - sodium sulphonate, substituted in the 4-position by anilido, and in the 8-position by sulpho, and in the 5-, 6-, 7- or 8- position by chlorine; (3) 1-aminoanthraquinone - 2 - sodium sulphonate substituted in the 4-position by diphenylamino-, and benzidino; and (4) the products obtained by treating 2 mols. of 1-amino-4-anilidoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid with formaldehyde, and by treating 2 mols. of 1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone 2-sulphonic acid with 4 : 4<1>dichlordiphenyl.
