Abstract
322,008. Imray, O. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 3, 1928. Anthraquinone vat dyes or their leuco-compounds are prepared by treating a N-alkylpyrazolanthrone (Specification 264,503) substituted in the 2-position by a halogen, sulphonic acid or mercapto group with an alkaline or neutral reducing agent. The substituent in the 2-position appears to be split off and a bimolecular product formed which is generally a leuco derivative and may thus be used immediately for dyeing processes. Reducing agents used in examples are hydrosulphite, alcoholic sodium sulphide, zinc dust and caustic soda, and magnesium, ammonium chloride and methyl alcohol, and products are prepared from substituted N-methyl and ethylpyrazolanthrones dyeing cotton in red shades from a blue vat. They are identical with the products described in Specifications 14103/15 and 263,494. 2-Halogen N-alkylpyrazolanthrone are prepared by treating the N-alkylpyrazolanthrones with a halogenating agent. The 2-chloro-N-methyl- and 2-bromo-N-ethylpyrazolanthrones are described. 2-Mercapto-N-methylpyrazolanthrone is prepared from the corresponding 2-chloro derivative by treating with sodium sulphide. The 2-methylthioether is prepared by methylating the sodium salt of this mercapto derivative. N-Alkylpyrazolanthrone-2-sulphonic acids are prepared by sulphonating the N-alkylpyrazolanthrones with oleum.
