304,245. Soc. of Chemical Industry in Basle. Jan. 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 279,479. Benzanthrone derivatives.-Bz1 : Bz1<1> or 2 : 2'- dibenzanthronyl sulphonic acids are alkali fused to give vat dyestuffs, which on alkylation yield vat dyestuffs dyeing grey shades and similar to the products of the parent Specification. According to the examples :-Bz1 : Bz1<1>-dibenzanthronyl is sulphonated by means of oleum; the resulting sulphonic acid (which is a yellow wool dye) is fused with caustic potash, giving a product which dyes cotton from the vat in greenishgrey tints; this on methylation by means of ptoluenesulphonic methyl ester in nitrobenzene in presence of sodium carbonate gives a product dyeing fast greenish-grey tints 2: 2'-Dibenzanthronyl sulphonic acid is also specified as a parent material.
