Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; grates.-In a powdered-fuel furnace in which air is blown in at the bottom through a chain grate 23 with sufficient force to keep the fuel largely in suspension, the lower end of the furnace is V-shaped in section with the sides 12, 13 of the V rising from the front and rear ends of the grate. The air chamber 30 below the grate is supplied under control of a damper 32 and is sealed at the other end by a damper 33. Ash &c. collecting on the grate is carried thereby into a hopper ash-pit 38 with screw conveyer discharge. The height of the grate may be adjusted by hydraulic lifts 44.
