Pulverulent - fuel furnaces. - A coaldust fired boiler has the combustion space b surrounded on a plurality of sides by the boiler d and is fired from above through a supply tube a adjustable in height, the flame reversing at or near the bottom c of the combustion chamber where the ash and slag are delivered in a molten form. The coarser particles of fuel are consumed while floating upon the molten slag, and the flame is thus freed from impurities before reaching the boiler d. By adjusting the burner a the zone of maximum temperature may be varied. A mixture of blast furnace gas and coal dust may be employed. The burner may be located centrally of three or more boiler units or of an annular boiler.
