Abstract

338,698. Beckmann, H. Oct. 26, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 240,430. Latex, coagulating; porous indiarubber.-The process for producing micro-porous rubber described in the parent Specification is modified by adding to the latex a substance capable of being coagulated to form an hydrophilic gel, and then treating the mixture with a coagulating agent adapted to coagulate both the latex and the additional substance. The resulting gel is then vulcanized. Suitable colloid substances are silicic acid, stannic acid, aluminium hydroxide, colloidal ferric oxide, colloidal chromic oxide, colloidal tungstic and molybdic acid, manganic hydroxide, vanadium pentoxide, tetanic acid, albuminoids, polypeptides and haemoglobin. The substance need not be added as such but may be formed in the latex by reaction, for instance silicic acid may be introduced as sodium silicate. In an example, 2 per cent of blood albumen, calculated on the rubber content, is dissolved in water and added to latex in addition to the usual agents. Acetic acid is added and the mass is spread out in the desired shape or mould whereupon coagulation takes place. Specification 309,575 is referred to.
