India-rubber, preparation of. - Caoutchouc latex, before, during, or after coagulation, is treated with a hydrosulphite, thiosulphate, aldehyde sulphoxylate, or ketone sulphoxylate for the purpose of improving the quality of the caoutchouc. For example about 4 grammes of sodium hydrosulphite are added to a litre of fresh latex, and coagulation is brought about by acetic acid &c.
