Oct. 4, 1909, [Convention date]. 6:6<1>-Dialkylthio derivatives of indigo are obtained by condensing 5-alkylthiophenyl-1-glycme-2-carboxylic acids to the corresponding indoxyl derivatives and oxidizing these. According to an example, 5-ethylthiophenyl-1-glycine- 2-carboxylic acid is treated with acetic anhydride, and the dye is separated by treating with alkali and blowing in air. The products dye green to black tints. 1-Nitro-2-benzoic acid-5-xanthogene ester is obtained by treating diazotized 5-amino-1-nitro- 2-benzoic acid with potassium xanthogenate. 5-Ethylthio-1-nitro-2-benzoic acid is obtained bv treating the above body with sodium ethylsulphate and alkali. 5-Ethylthio-1-amino-2-benzoic acid is obtained by reducing the above nitro compound. 5-Ethylthiophenyl-1-glycine-2-carboxylic acid is obtained by treating 5-ethylthio-1-amino-2- benzoic acid with chloracetic acid.
