Head lamps, personal; lantern doors and door fittings.-A portable electric lamp adapted to be attached to the clothes of the user or to a mine prop or like support, as by means of a hook 24 or a ring (not shown), comprises a casing 2 provided at one side with an internal projection 5 which forms a recsss and serves to locate in exact position, and to detachably support, a correspondingly shaped insulating block 7 upon which is mounted a socket for a bulb 1, the contact plates 10. 11<1> of an externally operated switch 12, and the terminal connections for the insulated flexible leads from a portable battery or other source of electricity. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the partly-spherical block 7 is secured to the projection 5 by means of a screw 6, and the leads 3 pas; through a watertight. tubular fitting 4 on the back of the casing '2. and through a hole 8 in the block 7 to be connected to terminal plates on the front face of the block. The securing screw of one of the terminal plates carries a spring strip- (not shown) adapted to be engaged by the central contact of the bulb 1, and the bulb socket is connected to a contact plate 11<1>. The plug switch 12 is mounted in a boss 13 on the casing 2 and operates against a spring 14, a pin 15 seating in a transverse slot in the boss 13 when the switch is in the retracted position. The rims of a reflector 16 and a front glass 17 are secured to the casing 2 by means of a screwed ring 18 having a peripheral slot 22 adapted to be engaged by a pawl 19 pivoted at 20 between lugs 21 on the casing 2, unauthorized opening being prevented by means of a lead rivet 23 or a magnetically removable bolt passing through the lugs 21 and the pawl 19. In the form shown in Fig. 8, the front of the casing 2, the reflector 16, and the front glass 28 are all elliptical in transverse section so as to spread the light. laterally, the front ring being hinged at 26 and provided with a hasp 29 hinged at 27 and secured in position by a lead rivet passing through a staple 23. According to the Provisional Specification the casing 2 may be made of aluminium or ebonite.
