Abstract
336,972. Bailey Meter Co., (Assignees of Barrett, J. M.). Oct. 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Closure members, double beat, and piston.-A balanced valve having valve members of equal area provided with a removable cage seating has the cage 7 secured in the lower smaller seat opening and is furnished at the top with an integral elastic flange 15 adapted to be clamped by a screwed ring 18 in the upper larger seat opening. In the form shown in the Figure the cage is screwed into the lower opening to bring a conical shoulder 12 into contact with the casing, while a cylindrical flange 13 at the upper part slidably engages the casing. The cage and the ring 18 are both provided with manipulating projections 16, 19. The cage between the seats has a series of rectangular ports 8 with triangular extensions 32 communicating with an annular groove 35 immediately beneath the upper seat, and below the lower seat has a cylindrical extension 33 similarly provided. The upper valve member 24 is held on a conical part of the valve spindle 26 by a nut 28 to which the actuating spindle 30 is secured. The lower valve member is adjustably screwed to the spindle 26. In assembling the valve member, the upper member is passed through one of the ports 8 and is then turned in a recess 31 into a position at rightangles to the spindle in slidable engagement with the bars 9 of the cage. In a modification the valve members close downwardly and the triangular port extensions are dispensed with.
