Abstract

336,511. Wright. E. C. Jan. 14, 1930. Angular bending ; formers. -In an apparatus for bending tubes &c. of the type comprising two arcuate bending surfaces one of which has a planetary movement over the other, the surfaces have inter-meshing gear teeth to effect a positive drive between the surfaces. A stationary arcuate former 1 provided with a series of grooves for bending pipes of different diameter is secured hy lugs 5, 6 to a bench and is provided with an apertured abutment at stop 13 for the pipe. Toothed segments 12 are attached to the upper and lower ends of the former and mesh with similar segments on a former 2, which is rotatable on an axis 11 connected by parallel links 8 to the axis 9 of the stationary former. The former 2 is rotated bv a handle 3 so as to cause it to travel on the former 1 to effect the bend. The former 2 may be a complete cylinder rotated by a handle through gearing mounted in the links 8. Bends of greater radii than that of either of the formers may be effected by making the grooves therein eccentric to the axes 9, 11, Fig. 4.
