Abstract

247,278. Reed, S. A. Nov. 11, 1924. Screw propellers.-In a machine for twisting the plates for aeronautical propellers made of a metal known under the Registered Trade Mark duralumin, the plate is held by two pairs of clamps spaced apart and connected together by a tube, which transmits the torque stress from one to the other pair of clamps. One pair of clamps 3 is secured to a tube 14 rotated by mechanical means reacting against the torque transmitting tube 1 in which the other pair of jaws 4 are fixed. The tube 1 rests on a bench 15 and carries a pair of connected yokes 17, 18 in which are mounted the shafts of pinions 20 in gear with a wheel 16 secured to the tube 14. The pinions are driven by spur gear 21 and worm gear 23 from a shaft 24 which is driven by spur gear 25 from an electric motor mounted on a shelf attached to the tube 1. The tube 1 may have pairs of guide bars so that the jaws 4 may be longitudinally adjusted therein to effect a progressive twist of varying ratio.
