Fire-extinguishing by pulverulent materials.-A powder extinguisher comprises a container 2 with a conical bottom 4 leading to a discharge outlet 12, and with an extension 5 on which the extinguisher stands. A pipe 15 for the supply of pressure gas for discharging the powder runs obliquely through the container until it reaches its axis, runs then along the axis, as at 20, is again bent outwardly at 22, and terminates in a curved portion 23 which is of general helical form and runs closely adjacent, and equidistant from, the conical wall 4. The delivery end 27 of the pipe is so bevelled, Fig. 2, that the main portion of the gas is directed towards the outlet 12 in a direction tangential to the surface 4, but also a portion is directed upwardly into the body of the powder within the container, in order to loosen it. The powder used may be that described in Specification 319,372.
