FOAM PRODUCER FOR FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Filed Nov. 19, 1958 flilorzzay Patented Aug. 27, 1940 UNITED STATES FOAM PRODUCER FOR FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Ernst Giihre, Dortmund, Germany, assignor to I Concordia Elektrizitats Aktiengesellschaft,
Dortmund, Germany, a joint-stock company of Germany Application November 19, 1938, Serial N 0. 241,361 In Germany September 24, 1938 2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in foam producers for fire extinguishers, and more particularly in foam producers of the type comprising a pair of nozzles opening into a common con- 5 tainer having a delivery-opening, the said nozzles being connected respectively with a supply of a suitable liquid extinguishing medium and a gas adapted to transformthe said medium into a foam which is delivered through said delivery l0 opening. The object of the improvements is to provide an apparatus of this type in. which the formation of dead spaces in which water is accumulated is prevented. Another object of the improvements is to provide an apparatus in which the loss of pressure within the said receptacle is reduced to a minimum. With these objects in view, my invention consistsin constructing the 4 said receptacle substantially in the form of an oval or ovoid or pear, and mounting the said .20 nozzles in the longitudinal axis of the said oval shape composed of two sections b and e suitably connected with each other at f, the said receptacle having a delivery pipe (1 secured to its narrow end at g. Axially of the said receptacle b, e a nozzle a is passed through the broad-end thereof so as to open into the same near the said broad end, and a second nozzle 0 is passed through the side wall of the body b, e,- the inner or delivery end of the said nozzle being bent at right angles towards the nozzle a and being located with its delivery end coaxially of the, said nozzle a and the receptacle b, e. 1
In the operation of the apparatus it is preferred to supply the liquid medium through the nozzle 5 a and the gaseous medium through the nozzle 0. But I wish it to be understood that my invention is not limited to this feature.
The liquid delivered into the recetacle b, e .through the nozzle 0. is impinged upon by the 10 gaseous" medium delivered coaxially thereof through the nozzle 0, and it is transformed thereby into a foam. The said foam flows, without being subjected to stowing, to the pipe at and it is delivered therefrom outwardly. No dead'spaces in which liquid might accumulate are produced within the receptacle, and any loss of pressure Which'is not needed for the'formation of foam is avoided. Thus the efficiency of the apparatus is high.
I claim: 1. A foam producing apparatus, comprising. a receptacle of substantially oval shape and having ,a delivery pipe at one of its narrow ends extending substantially in the direction of the longi- 25 tudinal axis of said oval receptacle, and a pair of nozzles for the supply respectively of a liquid and a gaseous medium passed into the said receptacle and having their delivery openings opposed to each other and located substantially coaxially of the longitudinal axis of said receptacle, one of said nozzles being located near the end wall of said receptacle remote from said delivery pipe.
2. A foam producing apparatus as claimed in ERNS'I. GOHRE. 40
