[Class 4] In a device for propelling a body by discharging pressure fluid into a medium at lower pressure through a relatively wide slot having one wall prolonged and deviating from the slot as described, e.g. in Specification 456,063, the deviating portion of the wall is formed by successive surface elements M, M1, M2 arranged at predetermined angles to one another and starting from a point behind the outlet of the slot, the angles, the lengths of the elements and the distance of the starting point behind the outlet of the slot being chosen in accordance with the ratio of the pressure of the fluid to be discharged, the section of the slot and the nature of the fluid. Deviation of the whole of the gaseous stream is ensured by independent deflector elements M<SP>1</SP>, M<SP>1</SP>1, M<SP>1</SP>2 extending in the same direction as the surface elements.
