Abstract

336,007. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). July 10, 1929. Carbonyl processes.-In making finely divided iron by thermal decomposition of iron carbonyl in the hot free space of a heated vessel, the heat necessary for the decomposition is supplied partly to the interior of the vessel, for example, by hot gases or other substances introduced along with the carbonyl, or by an inverted flame , or by induction heating, and partly to the exterior of the vessel, for example by a heating jacket or by resistance heating. The contents of the decomposition chamber may be subjected to a whirling or like motion. Specifications 269,677, and 284,087, [Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], are referred to.
