Dry processes of extracting lead.-Metallic lead is obtained from chemically prepared lead sulphate, for example that produced by the process described in Specification 129,773, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic], by intimately mixing it with finely divided carbon and feeding the mixture continuously or intermittently into a reaction vessel wherein it is heated to the necessary temperature in the absence of oxidizing gases, the resulting molten lead being withdrawn continuously or intermittently.
