Abstract

335,964. Nielsen, N. J. June 5, 1929, Sterilizing and preserving milk.-Liquids such as milk are condensed in a system consisting of a vacuum tank 4 and a heated serpentine tube system contained in a jacket 5, hot water being used as the heating agent in the tube system. The hot water is circulated by pump 12 in a closed circuit following the arrows 17 through the jacket 5 and a direct contact steam heater 13 preferably using waste steam and mounted on the pump 12. The milk is circulated through the tank 4 and the tubes in jacket 5 following the course of arrows 18 by a pump 10 preferably mounted under tank 4 and a pump 20 draws off milk, fresh milk being admitted through pipe 21.
