219,548. Shepheard, E. A. Oct. 26, 1923. Sterilizing milk.-Milk to be pasteurized is heated. " held," and cooled under a vacuum. The milk passes from a receiving-tank B to one of two heaters A and thence through a heater C and filter D to one of three holding tanks E which are arranged for continuous operation in the ordinary way. From the tank E it passes through a cooler C' to storage tanks F and a filling-apparatus G. The vessels A, E and F are connected by pipes V to an air-pump capable of producing a vacuum of about 15 inches of mercury. The heater C and cooler C' overlap each other so as to provide a regenerative effect.
