Abstract
334,829. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges. March 1929, [Convention date]. Electromagnetic clutches are modified for use with alternating current by incorporating in the part 4 carrying the magnet winding 5. a rectifier 7, one end of which is connected by leads 6 to the winding 5 and the other by leads 8 to a source of alternating current, for example by slip rings 9. The rectifier is preferably of the metallic dry-plate type arranged in the " Graetz " circuit, the four recesses containing the cells being symmetrically disposed about the shaft 2 and cooled by air channels 10. In a modification, the leads 8 are connected to an armature on the shaft 2, alternating current being induced either by stationary windings energized from the external source or by a permanent magnet. This form of clutch may be used as a starting clutch, as it operates only after a definite speed is attained.
