Abstract

Boxes.-A flexible sleeve 4 of rubber or the like for closing the end of a bearing 3, Fig. 1, for an angularly and axially movable shaft 2 is formed at one end with an internal annular groove 6 adapted to engage a lip 7 on the bearing, while the other end is provided with one or more internal grooves carrying rings 10 of metal, fibre, felt, or the like, which engage the shaft. The ring 10 may be in the form of a helix. The sleeve 4 may be applied to the end of the stationary member 28, Fig. 4, of an adjusting device for a Bowden-wire cable, the ring 10 engaging the cable 27. The interior of the sleeve forms a chamber for lubricant. The sleeve may also be applied to the end of the guide 32, Fig. 5, for a valve stem 33. For enclosing the spring 17, Fig. 3, encircling the end of a flexible brake cable 16, the groove 6 in the sleeve 4 engages a disc 26 carried by the cable, while the rings 10 telescope over a flexible sleeve 20 having a groove engaging a lip 22 on the abutment 23 for the spring. The composite enclosure thus produced contains lubricant.
