Abstract

334,432. Electroacustic Ges. Dec. 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Subaqueous sound-signalling apparatus.-Subaqueous sound transmitting and receiving devices are protruded from the hull of a ship by means of a liquid operating medium, the entire circulation system of the operating medium being subjected to the pressure of the external water. A sword-shaped body e carrying the transmitting and receiving devices g is connected to a piston f sliding in a cylinder a having a cover c and a stuffing-box d. A centrifugal pump i causes the in-and-out movement of the body e. A cock l is connected on one hand to the pressure side and on the other hand to the suction side of the pump i, and is so arranged that the pressure and suction sides of the pump are connected alternately with the upper and lower chambers n, m of the cylinder a. The suction side of the pump is connected to the external water through a pipe o. At the highest point on the pressure side of the pump is an air-remover p communicating with the external water through a pipe q. An automatic valve cuts out the air-remover when all the air has escaped after the pump is started. The tubes o, q are provided with cocks r, s which are normally open.
