Subaqueous audible signals.-The piston 2 for projecting the carrier 3 of the sound transmitters or receivers from underneath a ship into operative position, as described in the parent Specification, is actuated by connecting the suction and pressure sides of a pump 7 to opposite sides of the piston, a two-piston cock 6 reversing the action. In a modification, the lower chamber 4 and the stuffing-box are dispensed with, the valve 6 connecting the upper chamber 5 with either the suction or the pressure side of the pump, one or other side of the pump being connected with the atmosphere. Instead of a special pump, existing pressure systems or reservoirs on the ship may be used.
