Abstract

334,190. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 27, 1929. Carbon or soot obtained by splitting carbon monoxide by means of metals of the eighth group of the periodic system is freed from carbonyl-forming metals or their carbides by treating the carbon at a temperature of 50-210‹ C. with Carbon monoxide which may be under pressure, after a preliminary treatment either in an atmosphere of hydrogen or inert gas at 400-500‹ C. or in a weakly-oxidizing gas at 200-400‹ C. Small amounts for sulphur may be added to act as catalyst for the formation of carbonyl.
