Alternating-current motors. - In an induction motor of the kind having a high-resistance rotor for starting and a low-resistance rotor for running and in which means are provided for bringing the two rotors successively into their operative positions with regard to the stator, the movement of the rotors relatively to the stator is effected by a centrifugal device. In the form shown, the low-resistance cage rotor b for running and the high-resistance starting rotor c are connected to the shaft through a sliding feather and are held in the position shown by a spring h when the motor is at rest. As the motor speed increases, the rotor c is withdrawn from the stator bore and the rotor b is drawn into it b a centrifugal weight device g. In place of being entirely separated as shown, the two rotors may be combined into one continuous element.
