Abstract
331,969. Gramophone Co., Ltd., and Bailey, C. E. G. May 1, 1929. Thermionic heterodyne receivers; thermionic amplifiers. - A receiver having a plurality of tuned circuits 11, 12, 13 controlled by means of a single controlling member is adapted to operate as a " straight " receiver on a band of relatively short wavelengths and to operate as a supersonic heterodyne, receiver on a band of relatively long wavelengths. The Figure shows a receiver in which for waves of 200 to 600 metres the aerial potentiometer 2 is connected to the grid of the first high-frequency amplifying valve 5. For long waves the signals are applied to a detector 4 together with a frequency of 600 kilocycles from an oscillator 3 to give a sum frequency which is applied to the amplifier 5. Switches 14, 15, 16 which are preferably ganged, effect the change from long to short waves.
