Abstract
331,703. Wilson, W. F. July 18, 1929. Cutting and slicing vegetables. -A potato chipping machine includes a stepped rotary cutting disc by which the potatoes are first scored by a plurality of secondary spaced cutters and then sliced by a main cutter substantially at right angles to the spaced cutters, the main and secondary cutters being disposed on a high portion of the disc. Potatoes are @ed under pressure exerted by a spring-actuated plunger 8 through a hopper 7 into the path of a cutting disc 1. When the disc rotates secondary cutters 4 score the potato in their passage through slits 13 in the hopper, and in the continued rotation of the disc the potato is fed downwardly by the plunger to the extent of the step 5 once each revolution of the disc into the path of the main cutter 3, the chips being discharged through a gap 6 in the disc. Driving means for the disc comprise sockets 17 and 20, and a chain 19 actuated by a handle 25, the arm 24 of which traverses a slotted bridge 26 and engages a stop 27. These serve to ensure the proper order of scoring and slicing.
