Abstract

331,253. England, E. C. G., and England (1929), Ltd., G. March 27, 1929. Hoods.-In vehicles having a. roof opening closable by a panel &c., the panel fits within a correspondinglyshaped opening in the roof, and means are provided whereby the panel may be raised out of the opening so that its under surface is above the level of the upper surface of the fixed portion and then slid bodily to the rear to a position above the fixed portion of the roof. As shown, the panel 3 having chamfered edges 12 closes an opening 4, and is adapted to be raised by means of links 9 pivoted at one end in brackets 6 secured to the panel and at the other end to blocks 10 adapted to slide in guides 2 secured to the roof opening and projecting somewhat to the rear of the opening. The panel is raised and slid to the rear by hand. Locking means for both the lowered and raised positions comprises bolts 25 articulated to links 24, which are operated by levers 23 and finger plate 22. In the lowered position the bolts enter apertures 29, and in the raised positions apertures 20 in the links 9. Various modifications are described. In one case the front part of the panel may be carried by links, and at the rear the sliding blocks carrying the panel slide in guides which curve upwardly and then rearwardly. In another modification, the sliding blocks at both the front and rear slide in separates guides which curve upwardly and then proceed horizontally.
