Abstract

Opening tops.-In vehicle roofs provided with an opening closable by a hatch &c. the hatch is pivotally connected at the rear to members adapted to slide in guides on the fixed part of the roof and at the front the hatch is capable of being raised clear of the roof during the sliding motion of the hatch. As shown in Fig. 2, the front of the hatch a, b is adapted to swing about an arm f pivoted to the roof to raise it clear of an upstanding flange c surrounding the opening d. The rear end of the hatch is provided with studs j, Fig. 3, rotatably mounted in members k adapted to slide on guides l. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the guides l are shown disposed so that the hatch may clear a ventilator w and the front of the hatch is provided with brackets p adapted to be moved vertically by means of a slot through which passes a stud provided at its inner end with a roller adapted to run in guides s. In the case of a coach where several hatches are employed the rear hatch operates as described above which the remaining hatches slide rearwardly and are nested on the rear hatch, the rear guides being stepped accordingly and the brackets p being provided with open-ended slots so that they may be removed from the studs having rollers running in the guides s.
