Polymerization products of olefines.-Ethylene and its homologues are polymerized by heating them under pressure in the presence of an inert liquid, catalysts being absent. Mixtures containing olefines such as are obtained by cracking mineral oils or by the destructive hydrogenation of carbonaceous materials if necessary after a further treatment to increase their olefine content may be used as starting materials. Suitable inert liquids are mineral oils, vegetable oils, and products obtained therefrom. In an example benzine is obtained by heating ethylene with 'paraffin oil to a temperature of 420‹ C. under a pressure of 45 atmospheres.
