Abstract
330,050. Withers, J. S., (Automatic Safety Control, Inc.). April 5, 1929. Fluid - pressure.- A vent valve comprises a chamber 14 in the train pipe 13 and a valve 44 closed by the train pipe pressure and opened by a spring 41 when this pressure is reduced and means responsive to this reduced pressure to close the vent valve after the air in the chamber has been vented through the vent valve. When the apparatus is charged, train pipe pressure fluid raises a check valve 33, passing into a chamber A and moving a piston 26 against a spring 23. This movement brings a seat 46 and a trigger 37 on the piston rod in the path of the valve 44 as shown. When train pipe pressure is reduced to a predetermined value the valve 44 is opened by the spring 41 and vents the train pipe through an air vent 39 also the valve head strikes the trigger 37 'which opens the check valve 33 to free the air in the chamber A. When the pressure in the chamber A is reduced to a predetermined valve the spring 23 pushes back the piston 26 and reseats the valve 44. A gasket 24 preventing leakage past the piston rod 18 is held in place by a sleeve 25 threaded in the cylinder 15. A flexible diaphragm 31 clamped at its edges is held to the piston by a hollow plug 28.
