Abstract

329,800. Bramhall, D. April 26, 1929. Cleaning by use of sand and abrading-agents.- Sparking-plugs and like small metal articles are cleaned by a stream of sand or like abrasive directed against the article while in a container which may be slowly revolved. In the form of apparatus shown, a sand hopper 1 is provided with an air pipe 2 leading to a source of supply, a nozzle 4 terminating the pipe and a choke tube 6 supported adjustably by a clamp 5. A container 8 for the articles to be cleaned is rotatably supported in a cover 9 of the hopper. A pipe 13 serves as an air exhaust pipe, and a valve 14 in a pipe 3 serves to control the air pressure. The container 8 is constructed of wire mesh or other openwork material, the wires if required being covered with felt, rubber, or other material capable of withstanding the sand blast. A cock 12 in the pipe 2, when opened, allows air to escape to the nozzle, and sand is sucked thereby through the choke tube 6 and against the articles in their container. The container is slowly rotated either by hand or from a pulley 11.
