Abstract
1,035,535. Blasting. ST. GEORGE'S ENGINEERS Ltd. June 18, 1965 [June 19, 1964], No. 25353/64. Heading B3D. [Also in Division F2] A wire or bar B moves continuously through a chamber A in which it is abrasively blasted by throwing wheels or pneumatic nozzles. The inlet a<SP>1</SP> and outlet a<SP>2</SP> of the chamber have tubes C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> each having a flared inlet end c and each tube being supplied with abrasive from a hopper E through a pipe D. The abrasive in the tube forms a seal preventing escape of abrasive from the chamber A while permitting passage of the workpiece. Any abrasive spilling from the tubes C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> outside the chamber A is caught by hoppers F<SP>1</SP>, F<SP>2</SP> and passed to the chamber. The outlet tube C<SP>2</SP> may be extended and compressed air supplied to the top of the tube near its outer end to clean dust from the wire before it leaves the tube, thus increasing the life of drawing dies through which the wire subsequently passes.
