Road signals.-A signalling-device for controlling road traffic comprises a compartmented casing 1 containing lamps 17, 18 adapted to be alternately lighted to illuminate green and red, semi-circular, transparent plates 7, 6 when these stationary plates are uncovered by a continuously rotating semi-circular screen 5, the switch 27 for lighting the lamps being actuated by the shaft 4 of the screen 5 so that the lamp for the red or green signal is only illuminated when that signal is fully exposed, the illuminated signal gradually decreasing in extent to zero as the screen rotates. Modifications of the screen are described whereby the green " clear " signal may differ in duration from the red " danger " signal. The screen may be stationary, the coloured. transparent plates being movable. An electric motor 19 drives the shaft 4 through a variable-speed gear 22. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 316,598.
