Abstract
590,333. Displaying. GENERAL SIGNAL & TIME SYSTEMS, Ltd., and BLUM, J. R. July 31, 1944, No. 14612. [Class 3 (i)] A display surface is in one part illuminated steadily and in another part with varying intensity. The uniformly illuminated part may be a clock face a, and the changing part the area c around said face. In the construction shown a motor f turns through gearing l, m a shaft n operating the clock hands b and carrya dished reflector y. Stationary lamps t illuminate through openings v in an opaque casing x the translucent face a, a diffusing screen w being interposed. The reflector y is provided with circumferential corrugations which direct the lamp rays through stencil openings d in the surround c. The corrugations are stated to give a flowing effect to the light, and the reflector may be formed with differently coloured sections to give further changing effects. The reflector y may be driven by a separate motor.
