Abstract

328,128. Fleck, A., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. Alay 9, 1929. Sulphur dioxide.-Lime is obtained by heating calcium sulphate with a reducing gas flame at a temperature of 1050-1300‹ C. Gypsum or anhydrite is fed into a rotary kiln wherein a gas, e.g. coal or producer gas, burus in insufficient air for complete combustion. Sulphur dioxide is recovered from the escaping gases. The method is also used for calcining chalk containing sulphate.
