Abstract

Relates to processes for the performance of endothermic reactions in blast-roasting apparatus, e.g. of the Dwight-Lloyd type, and consists in lowering the proportion in the charge of substances which absorb heat during decomposition, but which do not react with the fuel of the charge, by the addition of inert substances, such as sinter returns, to such a degree that the endothermic reaction, and, if desired, complete sintering can be carried to completion by a given fuel content in the charge. The process is applicable for cement making, the burning of limestone, dolomite, magnesite, gypsum, &c., for the decomposition of chlorides and sulphates, e.g. ferric sulphate, zinc sulphate, lead sulphate, for reduction purposes &c. An example of a charge for Portland cement comprises 25 kg. of clay, 75 kg. of calcium carbonate, 100-120 kg. of sinter returns and sufficient coke breeze or like fuel to give 60-70 thousand calories. An example of a charge for decomposing a sulphate comprises 25 kg. of lead sulphate, 75 kg. of inert material (purple ore, sinter returns or the like) and fuel (e.g. coke breeze or pyrites) to yield 35000 calories. Other examples are given.ALSO:Relates to processes for the performance of endothermic reactions in blast-roasting apparatus, e.g. of the Dwight-Lloyd type, and consists in lowering the proportion in the charge of substances which absorb heat during decomposition, but which do not react with the fuel of the charge, by the addition of inert substances, such as sinter returns, to such a degree that the endothermic reaction, and, if desired, complete sintering can be carried to completion by a given fuel content in the charge.ALSO:Relates to processes for the performance of endothermic reactions in blast-roasting apparatus, e.g. of the Dwight-Lloyd type, and consists in lowering the proportion in the charge of substances which absorb heat during decomposition, but which do not react with the fuel of the charge, by the addition of inert substances, such as sinter returns, to such a degree that the endothermic reaction, and, if desired, complete sintering can be carried to completion by a given fuel content in the charge.
