Abstract

327,795. Woodfield, C. H., and Meacock, T. Feb. 4, 1929. Winch and electric-motor-actuated hoists with guided carriers.-A runabout truck 25 is provided with a pedestal 7 carry- 'ing a turntable 11, Fig. 3, which supports a lattice frame 11 having rollers 3 engaging the turntable and fitted at one end with a balance weight 6 and at the other end with vertical guides 1 for the load carrier 15. An electric motor 8 drives a winding drum 19 through toothed gearing 10, the hoisting rope 24 passing round a pulley 20 on the truck and over guide pulleys 31, 32 to a pulley 22 at the top of the guide frame and then to the carrier 15. The guides are centrally hinged so that the upper part 29 can be tilted backwards to facilitate transit through doorways &c. The upper part 29 of the guides when tilted is balanced by means of a weight 38 pivotally mounted on the frame 2 and connected by a parallel motion linkage 40 to arms 37 mounted on brackets on the movable parts of the guides. The pulleys 31, 32 are mounted on the brackets and are moved therewith so as to guide the hoisting rope when the guides are tilted. A handle 45 controls pivoted links 41 adapted to engage the brackets to hold the guides rigid when in the vertical position. When one-piece guides instead of hinged guides, as shown, are used, the balance weight for the guides and associated parts are dispensed with.
