Metal powder.-Metallic dust particularly of magnetic material for use in making magnetic cores, is produced by annealing the powder between two crushing operations. When using an alloy of 80 per cent nickel 20 per cent iron, if 25 lbs. is annealed in a closed box a temperature of 100‹ C. should be employed for one hour followed by cooling in air. The alloy may be embrittled by partial oxidation followed by hot rolling. Cobalt or chromium may also be contained in the alloy. The nickel-iron alloy may be rendered brittle as described in Specification 290,736. Specification 321,957 also is referred to.
