Abstract

327,155. Eastes, J. C. April 5, 1929. Movable-abutment type; packing drums, vanes, abutments, and the like; materials, special; driving pumps. - White metal insets 23 are provided for the radial casing slots in which rotate slotted abutment discs 6 moving transversely to the annular working space of a rotary pump or motor. The white metal is run in with the abutment discs 6 in position. The slots 16 in the abutment discs are radial with their faces at an angle to maintain contact with the rotor vanes. 2 which have tapered leading and trailing faces and are of a shape to fit the trapezium section of the working space. The rotor shaft is provided with thrust bearings 20 and drives the abutment shafts, also provided with thrust bearings, through skew and spur gearing 11 - - 15. The casing is formed by two half castings, one 5 carrying bored lugs to receive the countershafts driving the abutments, and the other 4 carrying a bridge piece 18 fitted with bearings for the rotor shaft; they are bolted together through lugs positioned by dowel pins 35. One section of the annular working space may serve for pumping and the other as a motor.
