Armatures, dampers and screens on cores of.- In a commutating machine, damping conductors a, Fig. 1, are placed between and insulated from the armature coils b and sides of the slots to neutralize the transverse flux across the slot and give an improved commutation. The strips may be applied to one side of the coil or both, as shown, and may be taped on to the parts of the coils lying within the slots. They may cover the whole or part only of the slot sides and may be provided with holes or slits. When applied to both sides of the coils, the strips may be joined by another strip at the bottom of the slot so as to form a channel with its opening at the mouth of the slot and these channels, as shown in Fig. 2, may have their central bottom parts out away at c so as to leave bridges d at the parts extending beyond the ends of the slots.
