Fats and fatty oils, extracting by solvents.-In an apparatus for cleaning articles by solvent vapour similar to that described in Specification 322,797, vapour losses are prevented by interposing air cushions between the vapour solvent and the ambient air. Bodies of air 10, 11, Fig. 1 are located at the entry and exit of the bath by elbows in the conduit 2 formed by canopies 8, 9, and are further maintained in position by heating coils 16, 17. Vapour diffusing into the air cushions is condensed by the intermittent operation of refrigerating pipes 18, 19. The heating coils and refrigerating pipes may be thermostatically controlled. In another form of the apparatus a liquor and vapour trap adjacent to the exit of the vapour bath, is maintained at a temperature below the condensation temperature of the solvent by cooling coils, to condense any solvent entrained by the conveyer or the articles.
