Abstract

In a process for disinfecting wool and similar raw materials such as camel hair, alpaca, and mohair previous to sorting, the material is treated with an organic solvent such as trichlorethylene. The extract is treated to remove the solvent and the wool fat is refined with hot dilute sulphuric acid.ALSO:In a process for disinfecting wool and similar raw materials such as camel hair, alpaca and mohair previous to sorting, the material is first treated with an organic solvent such as trichlorethylene in known manner and subsequently disinfected with known gaseous disinfectants, for example with a mixture of formaldehyde and steam at about 50 DEG C. under reduced pressure. After sorting the loose wool may be rewashed to remove further grease and dirt. After removal of the solvent, the wool fat obtained by the degreasing process is refined with hot dilute sulphuric acid.
