Abstract

326,063. Bagnall, E. April 13, 1929. Laminated springs. - A controller adapted to cause the leaves 1 of a vehicle spring to be bound more tightly together both on a shock and on the rebound consists of a pair of flexible members, each having two points of contact substantially apart on opposite sides of the spring, the tensional engagement of the members with the spring being adjustable. The spring is adapted to be lubricated through its own action. In one form, one flexible member 7 acts on the spring S through an adjustable set-screw 15 at one end and a ball 11 at the other, while the other flexible member 12 is slightly curved and rests on the spring at two points directly over the set-screw 15 and the ball 11. Shackles 18 hold the members 7, 12 in contact with the spring by means of transverse bolts 19, 20. Movement of the spring also causes the gap 13 between the member 12 and the spring to decrease or increase and one is drawn from the container 22 into the gap and thence to the spring leaves.
