Abstract
253,063. Snook, E. R. June 4, 1925, [Convention date]. Laminated springs. - The friction between the leaves is increased and the effective length of a spring is decreased with increase of load or road shocks by an attachment which engages the top or the bottom of the spring at two spaced points and the bottom or the top at an intermediate point. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, a frame consisting of two V- shaped sides arranged on opposite sides of the spring and connected by bars 72, 73 is applied to each end of a spring so as to clamp the leaves together. A roller 82 held in recesses in the apices of the V-shaped sides is opposed by a roller 74 held in the bar 72 and a screw 79 adjustable in the bar 72 and a screw 79 adjustable in, the bar 73. The screw may be replaced by a roller as shown in Fig. 5, one of the rollers being used to position the apparatus by engagement with an eye on one of the short leaves. Alternatively, the apparatus may be positioned by a link connected to the shackle pin 14.
