Abstract

325,942. Hinders, Ltd., and Hinder, P. G. H. Jan. 7, 1929. Foot-arch supports.-The cutting of the inner sole by the forward edge a<1>, Fig. 1, of a curved foot-arch supporting plate a, is prevented by the provision of a plate b, of leather, fibre, flexible metal or other material formed with open-ended slots b<1> engaged with studs c', c<2> on the plate a. The plate b may be formed symmetrical about the line c<1>, c<2> to permit reversal thereof when the forward end is worn through, or may be formed with a second pair of slots b<1> behind the first, enabling the plate to be moved forward when worn. The plate b may be secured at its forward edge to a leather or other strip d covering the forward part of the plate a, the strip d being split into portions d<1>, d<2> or having a second strip secured beneath it, to form a pocket for a lateral-arch supporting part e of rubber, felt, horsehair, or the like. The side edges of the strip d are secured beneath clips riveted to the plate a. In a further modification the plate a is completely covered bv a leather or like sheet, and the plate b is provided with closed slots engaged by clips or hooks on the under side of the plate a, the slots being longer than their engaging members to permit lateral movement, and reduce wear, in use. The plate b may be compressed where secured to the plate a, thereby reducing the depth of the securing means employed.
