Abstract

325,903. Lightalloys, Ltd., and Grieve, W. H. Dec. 7. 1928. Sashes balanced by springs. - Sliding sash windows of the type balanced by lever and spring mechanism have the lever connected to the spring by a ratchet device whereby the tension of the spring may be adjusted for various weights of sashes. The spring 13 has one end connected to the arbor 12 mounted in a casing 2 and the other end attached to the casing at 14. The lever 11 is rotatably mounted on the arbor and is provided with radial slots 8 adapted to be engaged by fingers 7 on a ratchet device 6 fixed to a flange 5 on the arbor. The arbor can be wound up to tighten the spring by a portion provided with a squared recess 15. The lever may be provided with a roller to engages a slot in the window sash, or may form one member of a lazy-tongs device.
