Holders for sliding windows.-A sliding window for vehicle doors of the kind normally closed automatically when released, by upward pressure of a spring device such as described in Specification 202,182, is held in any position by a spring- pressed member mounted on the door in a plane parallel with the window and released by means of a cam. The spring-pressed member preferably has a roller which turns freely in the direction of opening of the window, allowing opening by mere pressure so that only one hand is required, but cannot rotate in the opposite direction, closing of the window being effected by operating the cam to release the window. The member H, mounted on the member K, is pressed to the window by springs M to cause the rubber-covered roller N to hold it against closing. A ratchet wheel n<2> and pawl n<3> prevent rotation of the roller in one direction. The member H has a part provided with a slot h<5> in which works the cam j<2> on the handle j. Fig. 7 shows the device with the roller N engaging the window B. When. the handle is turned, the cam j<2> acts on the edge h<4> of the slot h<5>, withdrawing the rollerfrom the window and allowing it to rise. The ratchet may be replaced by the spiral spring o, Fig. 10<A>. Instead of the roller N, a strip h', Fig. 13, may be used.
