325,198. Stevens, H., and Stevens & Co. (1914), Ltd., A. J. Nov. 6, 1928. Energy-absorbing elements. - In rotational shock-absorbers for coupling a motor-cycle detachable wheel to a brake drum, the drum carries the shock-absorber and is normally supported entirely by the detachablewheel hub, but -remains fixed in position on the cycle frame when the wheel is removed. The brake drum 1, with or without an integral driving - sprocket, has an annular recess 2, on the journal-surface 5 of which seats a flanged ring 4, the parts 1, 4 having alternating webs or vanes 3, 6 with rubber or other cushioning-means, Fig. 1 (not shown), between them. The ring 4 is retained in the assembly by a ring 7 and is detachably secured to a flange 11 of the wheel-hub 12 by bolts 10 passing through the webs 6. The fixing- bolt 14 for the removable hub 12 screws into a member 13, which holds the drum 1 on the cycle frame 15 when the parts 14, 12 are withdrawn. The front and rear wheels are thus interchangeable, both driving and braking forces being cushioned. The Provisional Specification describes the use of dogs as an alternative to the bolts 10.
